Trees - a growing investment

Mission Statement: Be a leader in arborist consulting and provide creative solutions to tree-related situations to help our clients grow healthy trees and enjoy their benefits long into the future.

Our services include:

Tree preservation – Trees often are impacted by development and site modifications. We visit and inspect the trees and site, and provide recommendations and options to preserve viable trees that are involved with or adjacent to development sites.

Arborist reports – We inspect the requested trees and provide high quality reports to meet the objectives of the assignment. Reports include observations, discussion, and conclusions that answer questions, make a finding, or provide options for actions.

Tree health and condition assessment
– Visit and examine/inspect your tree(s) and assess the health and vitality. Provide care options to enhance the health of your trees.

Tree Risk assessment – Visit and examine/inspect your tree(s) and assess the structure and quality of the tree parts. Provide observations on the quality of the structure and wood present and options to reduce risk associated with the tree.

Construction protection plans – The construction site is inspected as soon as the project process allows. Plans are developed to exclude work areas; protect the tree roots, soil area, and above ground tree parts; and incorporated into the project plans.

Tree Resource Evaluations – Prior to development, properties should be assessed for their tree resources. The evaluation provides a list of the trees, tree conditions, and which trees are best suited to be retained on the site. With this information, a designer or architect can work with the trees to be retained and learn which plants have lower value or longevity on the site and incorporate this information into the project design.

Real Estate buyer's tree reports – Most new home buyers have the home inspected for quality construction and defects prior to purchasing. If you are interested in a property with many large trees, this report provides you a risk assessment, useful life expectancy, and maintenance needs of the trees so you can better understand the longevity and costs associated with the property you are purchasing.

Specification writing and review – Write quality specifications for different maintenance or tree protection activities. Specifications need to clearly describe the work for accurate bidding and inspection by landscape professionals.  We can also work with the successful bidder to to ensure the best care for your trees.

Management plans – Review the tree population and growing sites. Write a workable management plan that includes the vision and objectives of the tree owners with the standards for care, criteria for decision making, and protocols for maintenance or work performance.

Young tree care – provide pruning and training to care for young trees in a manner that promotes long term growth and reduced future maintenance.

Training and education – Customized training and education in urban forest and arboriculture topics. We specialize in discussing your desired outcome and objectives and tailor your course or seminar to the target audience and participants.  Three of our most popular topics are “How Trees Co-exist with Other Infrastructure,”  “The Benefits and Return on Investment from Trees,” and “Growing Young Trees.”

Valuation and appraisal – Trees have a monetary value that can be established for replacement, negotiation and litigation. We follow accepted industry practices to provide the value and clearly explain the process used to formulate the value.

Inventory – Understanding what our tree resource is comprised of is critical to sound management. We work with clients to define the attributes and data to collect for their tree population and survey either a sample or complete population and provide inventory data for reporting, management, and budgeting. We work with individual properties to whole communities.

Canopy cover analysis – The amount of tree canopy cover a population of trees provides the jurisdiction is compared to the amount of non-covered area. This analysis helps tree owners and managers determine if more trees should be added to their inventory, and where the trees should be added.  We work with individual properties to whole communities.

Municipal ordinance development – One ordinance will not serve every community. Most communities have preferences and tolerances for dictating what occurs on public and private property. We work with the communities to determine which ordinance sections and regulations are best for the trees, and acceptable to the community.

Master plans – A step above a management plan is a master plan for the community that can include the long term vision and the transition of the current program to the future vision. A master plan involves coordination with other departments and resources than tree maintenance, and bridges the separation that may be present.

Mitigation plans – Two types of mitigation:

(1)   Trees that have to be removed for development often require mitigation to the site or community for the loss of the trees and benefits the trees provided to the community. We provide a reasonable plan that replaces the benefits and tree populations either on or off-site to meet project and agency requirements.

(2)   Trees that are damaged or involved in a storm or other situation that causes damage or changes to the health or structure need to receive treatment and care to assist the tree in returning to a sound condition and long term health. The mitigation plan provides options and steps for rehabilitating the tree.

Expert witness – We provide expert witness research and testimony for litigation cases involving tree related issues.

Long term landscape management plans – Landscape architects provide wonderful landscape designs. Typically, a new design is overplanted to look full immediately. As the plants and trees grow, the roots and canopies change and compete. A long term plan involves modifying   irrigation to target the plants as they get older, removing the correct plants in tightly planted landscapes, and pruning and care plans for the long-term growth of the landscape.

We are here to serve you and look forward to the opportunity to provide your tree consulting needs. This list is  a general description of our services. Your situation may call for some customization, or “thinking out of the bark” for resolution.  Let us know and we will provide a proposal of work specific to your needs.

Please write, e-mail, or call with your inquiry.
