Tree Management Plans Trees are infrastructure. Infrastructure management requires an understanding of the inventory, the condition of the inventory, and maintenance options. The information is meshed with available budget and resources to create a long-term plan for the trees growing on your property.
Inventories can be performed in entirety, or by sampling. Either process gives the tree owner a snapshot of the trees at the time the inventory is produced. The best managment plans include acomplete inventory including all the trees on the site, tree size and condition, site conditions, available planting spaces, and risk factor and maintenance needs at the time of the inspection.
Maintenance can be prioritized based on tree conditions, risk, and available budget. The ultimate inventory is a "living inventory." The tree owner can maintain a living inventory by updating the data each time a tree is visited, and recording all maintenance and inspections performed. The data can be recorded in a spreadsheet or database.
Some tree owners incorporate a combined inventory and work order system that merges the work order process with the inventory data. Each work request is entered into the database and work orders are kept in a list until completed. As completed, the data and information are stored in the inventory database. Some systems allow formatting the data into reports that summarize the inventory composition, work performed, pending work orders, and customized information reporting.
Mann Made Resources can perform the full or sample inventory, evaluate an existing inventory, and develop a maintenance plan based on the available inventory data. The plans can be as simple as projecting maintenance within a given budget parameter to as complex as providing criteria, protocols, and practices for tree assessment, maintenance, and decision making.
